“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” ~ Winston Churchill
In fact, I would go so far as to say that having a positive attitude is the biggest way to make a difference in your own life and in turn, the lives of those around you.
So, what’s the best way to start having a positive attitude? Find things to be grateful for in your life!
Having an attitude of gratitude is one of the quickest ways to getting yourself in the right mindset and activating the Law of Attraction to help you reach your ultimate goals.
Here are 4 things you can do today that will help you start living with an attitude of gratitude from Natalie Ledwell’s Mind Movies:
1. Forgive the small things
Do you ever get upset when people interrupt you? How about when someone cuts you off in traffic?
Whether we realize it or not, other people’s actions affect us; the trick is to not let these events bring your mood down.
Make a conscious choice to forgive other people for interactions that tend to bring on a negative feeling.
Not only will you be in a more positive place by doing so, but you’ll also become more aware of the little things you do that could have a less than positive impact on others.
2. Make an effort to say "Thank You" as often as possible
Too often the little things get overlooked: a door held open, giving the right-of-way on the roads, and even just a friendly smile. These seemingly menial daily events can actually build a very positive state and even boost your health in some cases!
Take the time to give some quick “thanks” and a smile to anybody that brightens your day, no matter how big or small the gesture is. Again, not only will they appreciate your efforts, but your personal awareness will improve and reinforce your happiness.
3. Try to be thanked by others
As good as you can make others feel by thanking them, make an effort to earn as many "thanks" for the things you do. Compliment a friend’s outfit, offer to help a coworker if you have a bit of extra time, or give up your seat on a crowded bus/subway.
The appreciation you receive from others will radiate happiness and positivity throughout your entire day.
4. Start a Gratitude Journal
Start paying attention to your own attitude and begin keeping a gratitude journal to record your daily progress. Jot down at least 5 things you’re grateful for each day – big or small – and you’ll get a new perspective on life.
In fact, researchers have found that there are many benefits to writing down what you’re thankful for, including better sleep, improved overall health, and increased happiness.
It’s easy to start one, just pick up a journal or notebook from your local dollar store and keep it by your bed. Before going to sleep every night, think back on your day and what made it special, then begin with "I’m grateful for…" and fill in the rest. It just takes a few minutes, but the benefits of this simple act will be long-lasting.
Each person’s attitude, whether positive or negative, plays a significant role in the quality of his or her life. Not only does it affect the health of our mental state and relationships, but it also has a major impact on our general outlook and the opportunities and people we attract into our lives.
So, make an effort to always look for the silver lining and soon you’ll see that it isn’t so cloudy out!
