What’s Your BHAG?

I love Natalie Ledwell and her Mind Movies website.  She recently came up with this term BHAG.  No, it is not a monster, as the above to the left seems to show.  But he is cute, don’t you think?  Standing there with his little unicorn coffee mug?
Natalie’s definition of BHAG is as follows… A BHAG (pronounced “bee-hag”) stands for Big Hairy Audacious Goal, and they are totally awesome!

First off, if you look in the dictionary, the word "audacious" stands for:

Extremely bold and daring, brave, fearless, original, without restriction to prior ideas, highly inventive, unrestrained, uninhibited, bold in defiance of convention.

And this is exactly what a BHAG is!

It’s a big, bold, powerful goal you set for yourself that excites you, motivates you and will require you to step outside of your comfort zone and stretch yourself to achieve it.

One of the BHAGs Natalie set for herself this year was to become a best-selling author. (Talk about stepping outside of your comfort zone, right?)

Now, when Natalie set this BHAG, she didn’t know how on earth she was going to make this happen – but that’s exactly what made this goal so fun and exciting!

It’s forcing Natalie to stretch herself to find a way, and that’s what she has been doing. And now  she is well on her way to making that BHAG a reality.

My BHAG is to write my first eBook.  I have been thinking and contemplating this for over a year now…even have the title sketched out in my mind. It has been warming and simmering on the back burner… but now is coming to the forefront….my BHAG needs to move into creation.

So I’m wondering – what’s your BHAG?

If you don’t have one…

Here are 4 simple steps you can follow to create one that lights you up and inspires you into action:

STEP #1: Decide on the area of life you’d like to impact – money, business, career, relationships, fitness (or even just creating more fun & adventure!)

STEP #2
: Choose a goal that you have little or no idea how you’ll achieve it, that will require you to stretch and grow.

STEP #3: Write it down and share it with your friends and family to get it out of your head and into reality.

STEP #4:
Take one action, no matter how big or small, towards your BHAG every single day (this is important!)

Remember — life is meant to be lived fully…

So don’t be afraid to set a BHAG that’s bold. Be brave and be daring! You can do it.
Drop me a line…and share your BHAG.  I’d love to know what your Big Hairy Audacious Goal is.
